The Catechism of the Catholic Church defines marriage in paragraph #1601 in this way; "The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament."
In preparation for this great sacrament, it is important that each couple fully understands the vocation to which they are being called. Hans Whitmer, Director of Religious Education, leads a weekend study focused on "God's Plan for a Joy-Filled Marriage" in order to effectively enhance a key component of marriage preparation: catechesis in the theology of marriage and the gift of human sexuality. This weekend is offered in the spring and in the fall to couples planning marriage.
The Fall 2014 weekend is planned for October 24-26, 2014, and is required for those planning to be married in the church. Please call the Escanaba Faith Formation office at 233-9566 for more information, email Hans Whitmer at firstname.lastname@example.org . Pre-registration is necessary and the cost is $100 per couple.
